Rebuilding your Outlook Express Account

Ocassionally, for some unknown reason, an account can be built properly and it still does not work. In each case deleting the account and rebuilding seems to do the trick. If you have checked all of you setup parameters and verified they are correct and your account still does not work try deleting it and rebuilding it.

1. Click on Tools and then Accounts.

2. Select the Mail Tab, Highlight the rapfire.net account (or the account you wish to delete) and press the Remove button. Answer yes to the confirmation dialog box. Your old mail account has now been deleted. Select the Add button, then mail.

3. The Internet Connection Wizard will guide you through the process of building a new account. Enter your name or nickname here and press Next.

4. Now enter your email address. Your email address is your email account UserId appended to @rapfire.net. Make sure you do not enter @rapidfire.net. Press Next.

5. Your incoming mail server is a POP3 server. The Incoming mail server and outgoing mail server are both rapfire.net. (without the trailing period). Press Next.

6. Log on using should be checked. Enter your POP account name. This is your email UserID. Enter your password. It will appear as a series of "*". Make sure your UserID and password are entered in lowercase. Press Next.

7. Choose a friendly name for this account. If this is your primary account, rapfire.net is a good name. If rapfire.net already exists and you are building a new box because you have more than one email account with RapfidFire choose a different name. Your UserID of the second box is a good choice. Press Next.

8. Choose Connection Type. If you normally dial into RapidFire with your browser then choose "I will establish my Internet connection manually". This will make Outlook Express check to see if you are already online and use that connection to check your mail. If you are not online it will invoke the browser's dialup account to access your mail. If you choose "Connect using my phone line", Outlook Express will disconnect you if your browser is all ready on line.Use this only if you need to dial into a different service provider to access a mail account other than a RapidFire mail account. Choose "Connect using my local area network (LAN)" only if your computer is connected to a local area network that has a dedicated or server maintained connection to the internet. Press Next.

9. If you chose "I will establish my Internet connection manually, or Connect using my local area network (LAN), you are finished. Press Finish to save your settings and then press Close on the Internet Accounts dialog box. If you selected "Connect using my phone line" in the previous panel, then continue on to Step 10.

10. Outook Express will now build its own dialer independant of any existing browser dialer. Chose this only if you need Outlook Express to dial out to a different service provide. Outlook Express will disconnect you browser connection when set up this way. Choose the modem Outlook Express will use to build its dialer. Press Next.

11. Choose "Use an existing dial-up connection" if the one you need already exists. If the connection you need does not exist then select "Create a new dial-up connection". Press Next.

12. If you selected "Use an existing dial-up connection" then you are finished.Press finish and then Close in the Internet Accounts dialog box. If you selected "Create a new dial-up connection" then proceed to Step 13.

13. Creating a new dial-up Connection. Enter the telephone number of the service provider where you have the account set up. If it is a local number make sure the "Dial using the area code and country code" is NOT checked". If it is long distance or a toll free call check it on and enter the correct area code and telephone number. Press Next.

14. Enter your UserID and password for the different mail account at the other service provider. Press Next.

15. Your other service provider may require different setting that you already have. In most cases answering "No" here will work.
